Jhansi Education

The schools and colleges of Jhansi are run by both government and private organizations. The most famous university of Jhansi is the Bundelkhand University, which was established in the year 1975. The university offers degrees in basic sciences and professional courses and most of the other colleges and universities in Jhansi are affiliated with the university.

The Bundelkhand institute of Engineering and Technology of Jhansi, which is also known as BIET, is one of the most reputed engineering colleges of Uttar Pradesh. In fact, it is the third among engineering colleges in Uttar Pradesh. It is a government engineering college that is affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University. It was founded in the year 1989 and is fully funded by the Uttar Pradesh state government.

Medical and dental courses are provided in Rani Laxmibai Medical College. There is also an ayurvedic medicine college in Jhansi and a high school for girls, the Gaurabai Kanya Vidyalaya. This school offers education from 6th to 12th grade in vocational, technical, arts and science areas.

The schools in Jhansi use Hindi and English for instruction. Moreover, the schools here are affiliated with either the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, UP Board or Central Board for Secondary Education. The literacy rate in Jhansi showed 66.7% in the 2001 Census of India where the male literacy rate is 80.1% and female literacy rate is 51.2%.

There are two important research centers found in Jhansi that do research in the fields of Agro Forestry, Grasslands and Fodder. There is a Jhansi unit of the Indian Grasslands and Fodder Research Institute that is in Jhansi city, near the Pahuj River dam. The National Research Center for Agro Forestry is in charge for research in agro forestry on barren land in Bundelkhand region. It was founded in the year 1988. Both of these research centers work under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
